We chatted with Mr Don Loffler, the author of many early Holden books, He said he’s heard of these cars but has never seen one. This could be the only one in Australia…

The drive train was imported from Chevrolet in America and was factory fitted in South Africa to this 1967 Holden. This engine is a 194 cubic inch 3.2L 6 cylinder Chevrolet, which is coupled to the all synchro Opel 3 speed gear box. The reverse gear has a slight grind but all forward gears are perfect and it is a joy to drive. In 2013 the car went through a series of works including a new coat of paint which is presented in the 2 tone colour combination of classic white and Larkspur blue. It also had some rust repair done, which was minimal.

The HR has been garaged ever since, always serviced and rarely driven (once a month). It was brought back to Australia by the owner of Affordable classics in Canberra. The owner, after visiting his parents in South Africa, he saw that his father was getting too old to drive it so purchased it and brought it back.

This Holden is in excellent condition. All the doors shut like it just came out of the factory, the chrome on the front and rear is in excellent condition, comes with the original Holden hubcaps, chrome tip on the exhaust, interior is all original and all ornaments, mouldings, the roof lining and glass are in great condition.

New full strange pro iron heavy-duty carrier 9” diff centre, Eaton tru-trac centre 3.9:1 gears. CDS braced 9” shortened housing, billet 31 spline axles. Tubular adjustable upper control arms, boxed bottom arms, adjustable shockers. Shortened diff and notched wheel tubs, fits 255/60 ET street radial.

Custom EFI fuel system, original tank modified with magnafuel 275 lift pump internal pickup into an Aftermarket Industries surge tank boxed in-boot with twin internal 460 walbro’s. Aeromotive bypass reg. 1200+hp capability all controlled by ECU and E85 compatible.

Genuine GM LSA engine controller (ECU) and Harness kit. GM Fly by wire throttle control. ECU controls thermo fans, intercooler pump and fuel pumps. Genuine Bosch intercooler pump and custom PWR heat exchanger. 6L+ capacity custom tank with baffling. Works faultlessly and maintains a very steady IAT.

Custom Radiator with twin fans, runs cool and consistent. Castlemaine Headers 1 3/4” into twin 3” exhaust with hooker mufflers and resonators. Haltech IQ-3 Street Dash with GPS Speedometer – Pro-ratchet Shifter in console – SLR Steering wheel

Front suspension and cross member all completely rebuilt and powder coated, new bushes, new ball joints, new steering rack, new slotted and drilled HQ rotors, rebuilt callipers, new lines, new master cylinder. Heavy-duty front sway bar. Handles and stops extremely well as outlined in the engineer’s certificate. This car is ready for some street driving.

This is a fresh build and ready to go, nothing left to do but enjoy! It’s a 9-second street combination with reliability and hassle-free cruising.

Under the hood in the very tidy engine bay lies the LS1 with a Cam, C&C heads, LS7 lifters, push rods, triple bee hive valve springs, double row timing chain, high pressure oil pump, 1` 7/8 headers, 3” twin exhaust – vcm otr with custom cut outs.

The transmission linked to the green animal is a fully built stage 3 500HP+, 3 grand converter with lock out, Line locker BnM shifter – completed by the best…

The brakes are upgraded – slotted and dimpled rotors and upgraded pads.

That’s a mouth full. And the price shows all of this. You being a car person know the work, time and sweat spent of this car.

The diff consists of 32 spline axels, the trac center, 3.9 diff gears and did I say this before or 500 HORSE POWER. This car is a weapon.

The suspension underneath has the good works. Front super low king springs with Monroe GT shorten shocks, rear super super low shorten shocks also Monroe GT and adjustable front arms, full upgrade bush kit and camper kit. This is the best stuff, super pro – you can’t get any better.

The vehicle bearing the PSN – J428446 – was originally built at GM-H’s Dandenong, Melbourne plant as a Sandman V8 utility and completed on 13/05/74. A minor delay of less than one week was ordered with the final assembly and Touch up phases of production. The Sandman was ordered with the more luxurious Kingswood utility as the starting vehicle rather than the base level Belmont. The ‘Sandman’ decal package (Black for Glacier White0 was sent with the vehicle for fitment at the dealer.
